Fall Car Care Checklist for Waxhaw & South Charlotte Drivers

The Detail Buddy Journal / Fall car care

Summer was rough on your car.
Fall is when you fix it.

Pollen, bugs, sap and a few months of hot sun leave their mark. Then winter shows up with road brine and muddy shoes. Here is the simple fall car care checklist we walk Waxhaw and South Charlotte drivers through every October.

Step one

Get summer off the paint

  1. Wash off bugs, sap and bird droppingsThe longer they sit, the harder they are to remove. We have a whole guide on tree sap if you park under pines.
  2. Don’t let wet leaves sitLeaves stuck in the wipers, hood seam and around the sunroof hold moisture and can leave stains. Clear them out after a rainy week.
  3. Check how the paint feelsRun your hand (in a plastic sandwich bag) over the hood. If it feels gritty, a clay bar treatment will make it smooth again.
  4. Look at your headlightsWe lose daylight fast after the time change on November 1. Yellow, cloudy lenses make dark drives harder. Headlight restoration fixes that.

Step two

Reset the inside before the holidays

  1. Pull the floor mats and vacuum everythingFootball games, soccer fields and school pickup bring in a lot of dirt. Get it out before it gets ground into the carpet.
  2. Shampoo seats and carpetsSummer spills and sweat soak into cloth. A hot-water shampoo gets the smell out, not just the stain.
  3. Clean the glass insideThat hazy film on the inside of the windshield is worse when the sun is low in the sky. Clean it with a fresh microfiber towel.
  4. Condition the leatherHeat dries leather out. Cleaning and conditioning it now helps it handle cold mornings.

Step three

Protect the paint before winter hits

When ice or snow is in the forecast, North Carolina road crews spray salt brine on the roads ahead of the storm. That salty mist ends up on your lower doors, wheels and underneath the car, and it can sit there for weeks if nobody washes it off.

The easiest fix is to put protection on before it gets cold. A paint sealant buys you a few months. A System X ceramic coating lasts for years and makes brine, mud and road film rinse off much easier. We are System X certified, so your coating comes with a registered manufacturer warranty.

If your paint has swirl marks or looks dull, ask about paint correction first. Polishing the paint before it gets coated locks in a deeper shine.
