If you’re looking for ceramic coating in Fort Mill, SC, you probably want three things: a clear picture of what the coating does, the real options and prices, and an easy way to get it done without driving across town. This guide covers all three. My Detail Buddy is an owner-run mobile detailing business based in Waxhaw, NC, and we come to your home or office in Fort Mill, Indian Land, Waxhaw, Ballantyne, Weddington, Marvin and across South Charlotte.
What ceramic coating does
Ceramic coating is a liquid protective layer that bonds to your paint. Once it cures, it sits on top of the clear coat and gives the surface a slick, glossy finish. Wax and sealants also protect paint, but they break down faster and need to be reapplied more often. A ceramic coating is meant to last for a set term, and it makes routine washing easier because dirt and water don’t cling to the surface as strongly.
A coating can’t fix paint damage. It protects the surface as it is. If your paint has swirls, light scratches or oxidation, those should be corrected before the coating goes on, or the coating will lock in the existing condition.
Who it's for
Ceramic coating fits owners who want their paint protected over the long term and who are willing to keep the car washed regularly. It’s a common choice for:
- Daily drivers who park outside and deal with sun, rain, pollen and road grime
- Owners who want a glossy finish that stays cleaner between washes
- Anyone planning to keep the vehicle for years and wanting consistent protection
- Owners preparing for the colder months who want their paint protected going into winter
If you want to keep a car looking its best but don’t want to wax every few months, a coating is worth considering. If you’re selling soon, the coating may not make sense for your timeline.
System X ceramic coating packages and prices
My Detail Buddy applies System X ceramic coatings, offered in 2-, 6- and 10-year terms. Each package has its own warranty terms, so review what’s included before you book. Current prices:
- Crystal+ (2-year term): $810
- Pro+ (6-year term): $1,500
- Max G+ (10-year term): $1,250, and it includes a free Glass+ windshield coating
- Max MF matte (10-year term): $1,500, for owners who want a matte finish instead of gloss
If you’re trying to decide, think about how long you plan to keep the car and how much maintenance you want to do yourself. A longer term costs more up front, but it covers more years. The shorter term is a lower-cost way to test whether a coating suits how you care for your vehicle.
Fall special: Pre-Winter Protection
For October 2026, we’re offering Pre-Winter Protection, which combines a full detail with a 2-year System X ceramic coating. Pricing depends on vehicle size: $749, $799 or $899. It’s a good option if you want your car protected before the cold, salt and wet weather of the season. The special is listed on our website for the current month.
What's included
Coating only works as well as the surface under it, so prep matters. Every System X ceramic coating is applied after decontamination and polishing. Decontamination removes bonded contaminants that a normal wash leaves behind, and polishing smooths the paint so the coating can bond evenly and show the gloss you’re paying for.
If your paint needs more than light prep, such as machine polishing to remove deeper swirls or scratches, that’s a separate service called Paint Correction. We’ll talk through what your paint needs before anything is scheduled, and any additional work is quoted separately.
How a mobile appointment works
We come to you. That’s the whole point of mobile detailing: you don’t have to drop off your car or spend your afternoon in a waiting room. Here’s what you need to provide:
- A water spigot within reach of where the car will be parked
- A power outlet for our equipment
Choose a spot with level ground and enough room to work around the vehicle on all sides. A driveway or a parking space at your office usually works well. Please keep the car out of the sun during the work if possible, since direct heat can affect how the coating flashes and levels.
How long it takes
Timing depends on the package, the vehicle’s size and condition, and whether any prep work is needed. Ceramic coating is a multi-step process, so it takes a substantial block of time. We’ll confirm the expected timing when you book, so you can plan around it.
Caring for your car after the coating
Follow the care instructions we give you at the end of the appointment. In general, plan on gentle hand washing with a pH-neutral car soap, avoid harsh chemical cleaners and abrasive pads, and let the coating cure before you expose it to heavy use. Regular washing is what keeps the coating looking its best over its term.
How to book
Booking takes just a few minutes on our website. Pick the package that fits your car and your timeline, choose a date and tell us where you’d like the appointment.
For new bookings made on or after October 1, 2026, we take a deposit of 20% of the service price to hold your appointment. The deposit is deducted from your total, and it transfers to a rescheduled appointment. It is non-refundable.
If you have questions before you book, reach out. We’re happy to talk through which package makes sense for your vehicle and how your spigot and outlet situation will work.
